Changeover 2 - Borneo Paradise

Changeover 2 was a monumental event with loads of fun and games had by all. Situated at the lovely Borneo Paradise, everyone had a good old chin wag to catch up with all the news from the project sites in phase 2 and the participants performed their skits from their alpha groups to fill us all in on their activities. Lots of laughs were had, and everyone enjoyed receiving their mail and blog posts from home.

Tuesday involved lots of swimming and sunbathing the participants all enjoyed the Easter themed games in and around the pool. In the new alpha groups, they had to do a relay race in a ridiculous number of inflatables, an egg and spoon race, a jelly eating competition and a treasure hunt. The winning team Alpha 5 enjoyed their mini eggs to the max!

With a very early start on Wednesday all the participants deployed to their last project of the expedition (aahhh).

Prepared for lots of hard work with PMs Betty and Izzy, Alpha 1 will finish (fingers crossed) the Kindergarten in Tampasak. These hard workers are: Alice Small, Andrew Dockerty, Anna Underwood, Ariana Janjua, Edward Dick, Guy Woodgate, Helen Armstrong, Jack Kessler, James Carn, Jonathon Morris, Rosie Curtis, Roy Johnson, Song Jie Lim, Thomas Hywel-Edwards and Vicki Unwin.

Ready to enjoy the community and eco lodge of Batu Puteh with PMs Alex and Bev, Alpha 2 are: Alex Robinson, Anubhav Datta, Catherine Hirst, David Smith, Estanto Karulus, Fredrick Jago, Helena Brice, Jennifer Sheardown, Lucy Hitchen, Sam Gost, Sarah Turpin, Sophie Hiatt, Tom Lowe and William Novell.

Building the bridge in the amazing environment of Imbak Canyon with PMs Sancia and Skinner and special guest appearance from our admin officer Gill, Alpha 3 are: Alice Baxter, Ashley Smith, Bivieana Fredzex, Charlie Beadle, Christina Stocking, Eleanor Stewart, George Askew, Jia Loon Chong, Jonathon Pilcher, Kate Lomas, Michael Richards, Philippine Ruskamp and Samantha Pitts.

Heading to Danum Valley with Alpha 4 to enjoy the exceptional wildlife with PMs Kate and Penny are: Aleksander Piskorz, Andrew Morton, Christian Davies, Christopher Hill, Daniel Robinson, Emma Williamson, Jasper Fry, Jeremy Marchant, Jon Peters, Lizzie Rumble, Lu Yi Yap, Mark Abram, Sailee B Limat, Sophie de Valk and Stephanie Le Cornu.

Hitting the road to trek round Long Pa Sia then enjoy the diving off Mamutik Island is Alpha 5 with PM Jon and PM/Medic Karen: Emma King, Iman Effendi, Jack Moody, Jessica Greenwood, Lauren Roberts, Malcolm Chambers, Michael Donlea, Michael Anstis, Sieb van Es, Tamara Castelli, Tom Davies and William Evans.

Last but not least are Alpha 6. Chillaxing on the dive island and getting the open water qualification before trekking round Long Pa Sia with PM Bec and PM/Medic Antonia are; Anna King, Camilla Stasiak, Casper Todd, Clare Morrow, Cyril Masuil, Edward berrill, Grace Bickmore, Julia Robertson, Richard Wingfield Digby, Ryan Marshall, Tobias Steadman and William Newman.

Squaring everything away and running the show back at field base in sunny KK are: the big cheese Jim, DEL boy Ed, number cruncher Nic, Martin'll fix-it and Medical extraordinaire/Staff Liaison Officer Carolyn. Out on the road throughout to get lots of good stories and pictures are our intrepid reporter Anna and snap happy Mark. A big thanks goes to Dr Adrian who is off to sunnier skies - we will miss all your invaluable advice and quality jokes.

So good to hear your voice on Monday - it made our Easter! Have saved a monumental easter egg for you to munch on in August (a little past it's sell by date by then but i'm sure you'll appreciate it). Got your letter yesterday and have sent a copy to Claire. Hope you've managed to wear in your 2nd hand boots by now. Danum Valley sounds so exotic! Hope you enjoy your last project and see lots of wildlife. Hows the camera? Can't wait to see some pics - try and get some of butterflies if you can!!

Check out your facebook e-mail when you can. Take care Steph and keep on smiling :o) xxxx

Great to see your changeover photo and to know you're finally doing the diving course. Should be nothing to someone who happily talks, coughs and sneezes under water.

Am doing an aquathlon at the weekend so feeling a bit apprehensive about that - similar to your dive/trek combo but much shorter and much much colder.

Just had a call from Gran and she received your second letter today. Thanks for writing to her - you know how much it means to her.

Hope this last phase of the raleigh experience is absolutely the best. Contact me when you can. 'Safe' xxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

Hi Jasper (Alpha 4)

Many thanks for calling on Easter Day. It was lovely to hear your cheerful voice and to know you're having fun. Thanks also for your letter which arrived this morning. Probably no more letters from this end as I'm not sure they'd get to you in time. Anyway, we all send you lots of love. Bertie has just had a drastic hair cut and is feeling a bit self-conscious!

To Anna Underwood, Alpha 1

Dear Anna,

I hope finishing the kindergarten is less exhausting than building bridges. I saw you in the photo, with your new hair style - it looks great, but you appear so different! I've sent you several emails about travelling to other countries, and have attached the Foreign Office advice to travellers. If you are thinking of going to any of them please read the entries first. When you get back to base, please let me know what you are doing. I expect you aren't sure yourself yet, but tell me when you decide. i hope this project is really good for you. Love you lots,

Mum.

Visited SMU website. Very new indeed. All business related courses. Closing date 08Apr08. However, will skip this one as there are lots of business studies available back home.

NUS application completed yesterday. Posting documents to NTU on 31Mar08. Submitting Monbukagakusho application next week. Mrs Poon Yoke Meng of MBSSKL sent her regards and looking forward to your report. She may link this blog site to the school's website serving as student challenge reference...Cheers...

Hey Jack, it's George! Just finished our skiing holiday yesterday and we got home last night and picked up deeboo, she went crazy and jumped into the car and ravaged me :P

On the last 200m of the skiing holiday Will managed to completely KO coming off a tiny jump and he has broken his right thumb just before his uber revision starts :S

It was so good to hear from you in your letter and it sounds like you are having the time of your life.

Tomorrow is April which will mean only under 3 weeks until you are back in Banchory :D

P.S. please don't hurt me but I quit WoW so Venture hasn't had any work on him but then again neither has Frozone.

George

Hey Jack! It's Hannah :)

Just got back from Austria yesterday, was freakin amazing! Dad did the most hilarious faceplant ever!! Although the downside is that Will broke his thumb on the last slope on the last day :(

But i'm sure our holiday is nothing compared to yours! I read your letter and it looks like your having an amazing time :)

Have you grown a beard? (sorry had to ask)

Ok well see you in 3 weeks i think :D

Miss you

Hi Jack
As you know we're back from a great holiday although it was strange without you. Such a shame about Will's injury, if only it had been his left hand. Just been to get the cast put on and as you can imagine he's feeling pretty down about it all. Can't believe that each of my sons have now broken a thumb, how weird!
April tomorrow, so we'll be seeing you in 2-3 weeks, can't wait. Hope the trekking and diving live up to your expectations - watch out for trench foot! Belated Happy Easter, don't worry we've saved you some Easter eggs.
Enjoy every minute, it sounds amazing! Saw you looking tanned and happy in the team photo!
Love from us all.
Mum xxxxx
PS loved reading your letter, can't wait for the next one - keep them coming.

Hi Jack

Sounds like you dont wanna come back, which is fine by me :P I have broken my thumb just at the very end of the holiday so i still got a lot of skiing done but I cant write properly whch is annoying for revision, showering and other vital things but other than that all is well here at home. We collected deeb yesterday and she lept into the car foaming at the mouth with excitement, I am exaggerating slightly but she is crazy and now skinny :) Anyway Austria was so cool apart from the very end shame you weren't there but im sure your trip is amazing enjoy the diving.

You favourite sibling

Hello again Malcolm!

Hope wx is fine for the trek in Long Pa Sia. All well here. We have only had one letter from you, for Alex, which we passed on to him after his return from Beijing.
There has been no letter to your Mum or I or Penny. Did you write any or have they got lost?
I think we said that Robert is fine in Oxford and his girlfriend Toria is lovely.
We had an offer to home exchange to Banff in the Canadian Rockies in July/August, but decided to leave it until 2009 since Jerome does not earn real money until September. He has been accepted by BMW for an apprenticeship. He is a good influence on Penny.
We will go to the apartment in the Algarve with P and J from mid July to mid August.
Perhaps you can do the Spitsbergen expedition next year in the Uni vacation. This year would have been impossible anyway since there is a compulsory training weekend in May, when you are still in the Far East.
Hope your diving after Long Pa Sia can contribute to your full PADI. Make sure you have the diving log signed.
Another place you may want to visit after Sabah is Bali - very beautiful.
Your Mum is working again giving English courses.
I gave the weblog address to all your friends, so if they don't send any messages you know who to speak to when you return.

Love from all here,

Dad.
Everyone here sends their love

Hi Will, (Evans - Alpha 5)

Have just seen the photo of you and you're looking great. Know you're trekking at the moment and then off to the beach...tough life. I hope you get all our letters and the little package before you head home. Oscar goes back to school on Sunday and has enjoyed his revision courses. The guy who taught him Business Studies is an actor....I'll let him tell you. We had Heather staying with us til yesterday while Jill and Brett were on holiday. Can't wait to see you on the 17th. LOL, Mom xoxox
